Creative Ways to Showoff Your Photography – Gallery Wraps

This is my 3rd installment on showing off your Photography. First I talked about Moo cards and then yesterday about Gelaskins. If you have a shot that you really want to show off in your home or office, why not go the extra mile and have it printed on canvas in the form of a Gallery Wrap? I'm really addicted to this kind of print/mounting done by MPIX.com. First let me tell you that it's not cheap! Before I even consider having a gallery wrap done, I have to really be in LOVE with the shot. Otherwise I'll just stick to traditional prints in frames. Gallery Wraps are for those shots that are really important to you. The ones that you just can't stop looking at.

I thought this was my chance to get a few of my favorite shots mounted this way and save a little money at the same time. Creative Ways to Showoff Your Photography – Gelaskins

Yesterday I talked about showing off your Photography with Moo Cards. Today it's all about skins. My guess is that you have a cellphone, mp3 player, laptop or gaming device if not all of the above. So why not add some custom bling to your electronic devices.

Gelaskins has been around for a while selling all kinds of creative looking skins for your various devices. Honestly I'm not really a skin kind of guy. The reason is that I usually don't find an image that I like so much that I want it on a device that I use/look at every day. However, once I found out that they now allow you to use YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY, I couldn't get the site fast enough.

Creative Ways to Showoff Your Photography – Moo Cards

As a photographer I'm always looking for creative ways to showoff my work. So I thought I would spend the next day or so showing some of the products I've recently discovered or been turned on to to do just that. It's pretty common to have photographic business cards these days. However, the hard part is picking the one or two images that you'll use. Of course the minute you submit the order, you'll take an even more impressive shot the next day. So when my buddy Scott Kelby turned me on to Moo.com I was all over it.

Pick your favorite 50!

That's Right Moo.com lets you design your business cards with up to 50 different images. You can get 50 different business cards for only $21.99. Now you don't have to have 50 different images. That's the max. However, let's say that you have 10 images that you love. You can get say 200 cards with those 10 images and you'd end up with 20 cards of each image. For example, I picked 48 of my favorite images (I know, but I just couldn't come up with 2 more that I would want on a card) and I ordered 200 cards. I ended up with each image at least 4 times and two of the images ended up on 6 cards instead of 4.

So now when I want to give out a business card I can choose one based on either landscapes or portraits. The opposite side of the card, which contains your information is the same for every card.

The Quality, Cost and Ordering

The card stock used is very good. I've had as much praise over the quality of the card and printing as the images that are on them. Ordering was very easy and straight forward. I was glad and impressed that I could upload all the images at once. The prices are 50 for $21.99, 100 for $43.98 and 200 for $69.99. Head over to Moo.com to place your order. What I want in a digital picture frame

My buddy Dave Moser asked me the other day for a recommendation on a digital picture frame. Luckily it was over email and text messages and therefore he couldn't see the blank look on my face. I have a few digital picture frames in my house, but sadly none of them really stand out or come to mind as something I'm so excited about that I would joyfully recommend. The problem is that I haven't seen a digital picture frame yet that is GREAT! I haven't even seen any yet that are really good. The current selection of frames out there that I've seen are just "OK".

What I want in a digital picture frame

The problem is that when it comes to a digital picture frame it not only has to have great technology in it for loading images and seeing them, but it also has to be aesthetically pleasing because this is something that is going in your home on display. And therein lies the problem, I haven't seen one yet that's a good enough blend between art and science. So I thought I would build "my" perfect digital picture frame here. Hopefully it already exists and one of you will point me to it and if not, someone will read this and build it some day. So here goes:

How does your app work?

Sony FM/AM Clock Radio Digital Picture Frame with iPod/iPhone Dock Review

How's that for the longest product name in history? Oops, I forgot to stick in the model number: ICF-CL75iP. Ahhh, that's better! Wait, I forgot Dream Machine. OK, that's it.

A couple of months back I saw a pre-announcement that Sony was coming out with an Alarm Clock that had a built-in iPod/iPhone dock – YAWN! I know, who cares right? There are so many options out there, what's Sony going to bring to the table? Well there was one thing that got my attention and that's the built-in digital picture frame. This clock radio, iPod dock has a nice big 7" display.

Camera Mount for Your Car – Gripper 3025-RA Review

Last weekend I collaborated with my buddy Bruce over at Mandel Video on a video project. He was telling me that he bought a brand new Camera Mount for the car and wanted to use it on this project. Of course I had immediate thoughts of "yeah right, that ain't gonna work!" and I could just picture thousands of dollars in camera gear tumbling down the road. However, when I saw this thing and saw him attach it to the car I was very impressed! So impressed that when we were done shooting I immediately said "OK, how much for the mount?"

DLWS Wrap Up

Yeah, this one was shot with my iPhone, but it's one of my favorites.

Last week I had a great opportunity to participate in the Digital Landscape Workshop Series that took place in Traverse City Michigan. Although I had to work last week, I got the chance to go out on the sunrise and sunset shoots with the group. One of the ways I find to improve as a photographer is to shoot with other photographers whose work I admire. So needless to say when the likes of Moose Peterson, Joe McNally and Laurie Excell are going to be nearby, I make the effort to go! Last week I did a blog post about the importance of attending workshops/seminars, so I won't repeat myself here. The purpose of this post is to share some things that I learned.

Lightroom 3 Public Beta! First Look

One of my favorite applications of all time just got an upgrade! I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 every day. So quite naturally it's very exciting for me to have an upgrade with new features. Now I can share those new features with you as well. Today Adobe is releasing Lightroom 3 as a PUBLIC BETA. This means that you can download it, use it and provide feedback. You also don't have to be a current user. So if you were thinking about switching to or upgrading to Lightroom here's your opportunity to play!

Black Rapid R Strap 4 Review

One of the products I recently got turned onto (again) at a seminar I attended was the "R Strap". I had first seen it on the Nikon D-Town Podcast but never got around to ordering one. I saw it again at the David Ziser seminar and actually got a chance to try it out. The first thing I liked was that it doesn't just go on the shoulder or around the neck, it actually goes over your head and hangs under your arm. This way there's no way that you're going to drop your camera AND it's not going to create neck strain from carrying a heavy DSLR around.

How does it work?

It's a simple concept actually. One end has a standard tripod screw on it that goes in the bottom of your camera or L-bracket. It has a thumb screw, which means that you don't have to carry any tools around to put it on or take it off. Once you have it screwed in you can then just slide your camera up and down the strap as needed.
