20% Off CrashPlan Now thru 9/8/12

CrashPlan is my offsite/cloud backup of choice! I love the service and it has even saved my bacon a couple of times since I’ve been using it. Now it’s on sale for 20% off through Sept 8, 2012. Check it out here.

There are two types of computers users: those who have lost data and those who are about to lose data – BACKUP!

What good is your backup if it’s sitting next to your computer and you have a tragedy (fire, flood, theft, etc.)?

  1. I fins the cloud options interesting, but back off when I find it will take months to upload all files on my computer and hard drives. Any advise?

    1. They offer the option to send you a drive to do the initial backup.
My feeling on that is most people have been going for years without an offsite backup, so if takes 2, 3 or 6 months to do something you weren’t doing anyway, what’s the difference. Also since this isn’t my only backup (I still backup locally), I didn’t care how long it took.

      1. Plus, I believe, this is the only company that allows you to choose the folders you want to backup..so you are not forced to back up the entire gazzilion bytes of data for OS and programs….

  2. Terry, can you tell me if Crashplan will backup network drives from a Mac? I have an iMac in the studio, and two MBP’s that all back up to a central Lacie NAS on my network. While I’m sure I can’t install CP+ on the NAS itself, it would be great if it could backup the network drive share folders (time machine backups, image archive, financial info, etc.) that’s stored on the mounted shared drives.I’ve been scouring Crashplan’s site and google searching since I read your post and I can’t seem to find a definitive answer. Thanks!

    1. If the Finder can mount it CrashPlan can back it up. I current have it backing up my Drobo FS via a MacBook Pro. So I know first hand that it works.

      1. Thanks! I wasn’t sure if it saw a difference between local attached drives and network drives and couldn’t find any documentation.

I’m in! Heading over to CP to sign up right now 🙂

  3. Terry,

I know that this is not the forum to ask but I could not find any other way of contacting you. I know you are a big Apple person and at some point I saw you posting about Verizon FIOS. If I am mistaking please forgive me.

If the above is true I was wondering if you are able to use the Apple Time Capsule with the Ferizon FIOS router and are also able to use back to my mac in that setting.

Sorry for the off topic post.

    Thanks.
