  1. Awesome! Oh wait, what’s this, “Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 [Mac] cannot be shipped to the selected address.” Ah, I see, it’s another, only in the USA deals! Sigh…..

Yes, there definitely is a business opportunity in finding ways around these niggling territorial limitations. Physical sales limited to a physical site make some sense. If you’re not standing inside the bricks and mortar, you can’t pay the guy at the register and carry it out the door. But what sense does it make to limit sales based on nothing more than a mail or IP address? The Internet doesn’t understand those sorts of barriers, why should we?

Book distribution clearly has its act together. A little over a week ago, the best online price I could find for a new copy of “Monroeville: The Search for Harper Lee’s Maycomb” was from The Book Depository in the UK. Ordering from them prompted no “cannot be shipped” messages. The book arrived yesterday.

Distribution in the high-tech world of Adobe is clearly behind that in the staid world of paper books, a technology that’s half a millennium old.

  3. I echo Mike’s comments . It’s contiunually frustrating that in this global marketplace not everyone recognises that the US is not the only place in the world, and that we like to get good deals too. I checked Amazon.co.uk and there’s no offers there at all!

It’s possible to buy stuff in the states, esp digital downloads (eg ProShow). But it’s few and far between.

  4. Thanks Terry!!! I’ve purchased one as a gift for my sister and forwarded this to several friends. Luv all your sites.

  5. The reason the US gets good deals is because the US doesn’t have a VAT–yet. Soon, the US will be in the same boat as the rest of the world.

  6. I have Photoshop Elements 8 and recommended it recently to a friend, so when I saw the offer I was eager to let her know. Then I saw the comments, and as usual we in the UK, and other countries, are left out, just like we have to pay a premium for Apple products etc.
