Sometimes I run across an app or someone shows me an app that like a train crash, I just can’t look away from. If someone would have said, "hey go download the RunPee" app!" I would have thought they were crazy or even a little sick. Well my friend Wanda sent me an email about this app and I had to go check it out because I trust her opinion. First off get your mind out of the gutter 🙂 It’s not that kind of app!
The RunPee app is designed to allow you to know at what point during a movie could you duck out and run to the restroom. Every movie has those points where if you missed 2-5 minutes, you wouldn’t really miss anything. That’s exactly what RunPee gives you. You pick the movie that you’re going to watch and it will show you a list of the times that you can run out. For example, for the movie Up, you can take a 4 minute bio break at the 30 minute mark.
It will also tell you how long you can go for and even give you a little synopsis of what you’re going to miss.
You can even set a timer for when the movie starts so that you’ll know how much longer you have to go before the next break.
The Bottom Line
While I probably would have picked a classier title ("MovieBreak", "Intermission", "MovieBio", "You won’t miss anything"), this app does have some great applications. Also the yellow text doesn’t help LOL! If you’ve ever taken kids to a movie I don’t need to say anymore! Although the app runs on an iPod touch, It does require an internet connection. I don’t know how many theaters are going to have a Wi-Fi connection for you to use. It would have been nice if the app at least cached the info so you can get the list before you leave home. If you can hold it for the length of the movie, or better yet go before you go in, then you can skip this app. You can download RunPee from the App Store for 99¢.
Good one! I needed this one when I went to go see the Transformer 2 in IMAX!!
Hey Terry, thanks for the writeup.
The first update to the iPhone app will add caching so that you can use it offline. Plus the Timer will vibrate before each PeeTime which I hope will reduce the number of people opening up their phone during the film.
A few people have commented about the yellow text. What do you think: should that be a user setting so they can change it to white? 🙂
hmmm….as neat as that is…it kinda makes me wonder…At what point do we just turn off our technology and just enjoy the movie? Or television show, or even just a good book? Movie’s these days aren’t cheap and when I go its usually because I want to see the film, all of it. I do my business before hand and unless I’ve just guzzled a ginormous soda (hightly unlikely), I can usually stick out the couple of hours a film can generally take. It can also be distracting to see small beams of light penetrating the darkness of a movie theater. Some of those phone screens are bright! (I actually had to ask the guy in front of me one time to turn his phone off, he couldn’t stop texting long enough to watch the movie we ALL paid to see)
Don’t get me wrong I love my iPhone 🙂 And all it allows me to do. Technology is amazing and very accommodating a little too in many cases…And I love reading about the Apps you review. But I fear being so dependent on it I need it to tell me when to use the bathroom. :S
Love the Blog Terry,
Holly
Great concept! Don’t know how many times I thought I was taking a pee break at the right time and it turned out to be the wrong time. I’ll be downloading the app tonight.
Thanks!
