Create Flash Content Easily (no coding) with Adobe Flash Catalyst

FC

Adobe has released a NEW product via Public Beta called Flash Catalyst. With Flash Catalyst designers (non-coders) can create interactive content for their websites or to deploy as stand alone applications.

I created my first interactive widget called "What's on Terry's iPhone" and you can see it in the sidebar of bestappsite.com. This widget is not only completely interactive, but it links to the over 100 third party iPhone apps that I currently use. So it becomes a useful tool to link to a ton of information interactively in a relatively small space on my site. You can download the current beta here free of charge and use it to build your own interactive Flash content.

How to get started with Flash Catalyst

Seeing how you might want to see how this product actually works, I recorded this video for the Adobe Creative Suite Video Podcast this week and figured it would be a great way to get you going;

  1. The interactive app on your bestappsite.com site doesn’t appear to be working. Nothing loads in that space.

  2. Terry,

    Thanks so much with this web cast. I too do not know how to use flash, so now I may give this app try….

    Thanks again

  3. Terry, Lovin the tutorial for Adobe Flash Catalyst! Thanks for posting such useful info!

  4. Terry. Great tutorial. As a neophyte web site creator, I have been using Apples iWeb. Is this something that I can apply to the pages that I am creating there, or is the universe that apple has created with their application to self-contained?

    Thanks.

  5. Nice work Terry, but the Mail button doesn’t work, won’t let me read your e-mail. 🙂

    Thanks for the tutorial.

    1. Can you create a web gallery? Yes. However, I don’t know that I would call it easy or certainly not as easy as our other tools. Although you can create interactive content with FC, you have look at all that you would want a web gallery to do. Thumbnails, larger images, etc. You would have to do that all manually. Not hard, but manually. All the links, the showing and hiding of images, etc. So the question becomes, does it make sense to do it in FC? I’m going to say probably not.

  6. Any chance we’ll be able to incorporate FC-generated files into a Captivate project? Captivate can handle .swf files or .flv files, but it looked like FC generated multiple files–would it work to grab just the .swf from the FC output and put that into Cap4?

  7. Terry,
    Thanks so much! I have one question though, and sorry if this has been asked. Will this application (FC) let me make flash websites? Action script 3.0 goes right over my head along with flash cs4! lol so do you this this app will work to make Pro looking flash websites? Thanks!
