Favorite Gadget(s)

My iPhone 3GS. Without it, I would be lost trying to manage my days. A newfound love is my new Kodak Zi8 video camera, which I now use to record my video clips.

Your cellphone/smartphone (make/model):

iPhone 3GS

Won't leave the house without

My iPhone 3GS. It is my organizer that syncs back to my computer so that I never miss what I am supposed to do.

Blogs you read regularly

I don't visit much blogs regularly, but a few picks from my RSS reader:

ScottKelby's Photoshop Insider (http://www.scottkelby.com/)

CSS-Tricks (http://www.css-tricks.com/)

Smashing Magazine (http://www.smashingmagazine.com/)

FreelanceSwitch (http://www.freelanceswitch.com/)

BestAppSite (http://www.bestappsite.com/)

Mac or PC

I use a Mac

Laptop or Desktop

I use a MacBook Pro for all my computer work because I move between two houses a lot. It makes everything much simpler.

Favorite App/Software

Of course I use the Creative Suite daily, but if I were to pick another application apart from it, I would pick Billings, an application combination on the iPhone and Mac that lets me track my project time and bill customers.

Technology that you're most looking forward to that hasn't been invented yet?

I would take these virtual screens that we see in front of our eyes any day, saving me on a bunch of devices for mobile use.

What do you wear to work?

I'm usually dressed in a shirt and jeans.

Favorite Quote

"All things happen for a reason."

Favorite Restaurant

This is tough because I very rarely eat out, but for any of my fellow Gothenburg (in Sweden) friends, I like that indian restaurant one street in from Avenyn.

What time do you go to bed?

Usually on weekdays at about 10:30 p.m. At weekends, that tend to fall to about 11:30 p.m.

What time to you wake up?

On days that I have school, I have to wake up at about 6:10 a.m. On other days, my alarm is usually at about 8:15 a.m.

What's the first thing you do when you wake up?

I check my iPhone. Facebook, Twitter and the news are all part of what I do before getting up from bed.

Describe your perfect day

Waking up feeling rested and motivated, getting videos recorded, edited and posted as well as getting articles written. I would then be able to move on to client design work while still having time in the evening to spend some time with my family, enjoy a good meal and rest.

Anything else?

Thank you very much for including me here! I wanted to leave you with one of my philosophies:

Find a way to do your work in the shortest time possible and then do it instead of thinking about doing it. To be able to come up with the creative ways of shortening the time required, you need to be well rested.

  1. Enjoyed reading about Erik – what a talented young man. I am very much looking forward to reading his blogs and learning a few things. Thank you, Terry, for adding him to your list of people to interview. Really do enjoy this series as well as your blog in general.

  2. Erik has been a good friend from the NAPP community for well into 2 years now (I think), and he is definitely head and shoulders above most others in the tech industry – even ones 2x his age! If only I had his maturity and motivation when I was his age…of course the mental acuity will never be there, but one can dream!

Great guy though, thanks for featuring him here – he deserves the recognition!

  3. Terry – this isn’t a comment about your profile of Erik, I just didn’t know where else to let you know that when I brought up your page today, Safari brought up a message that your site was suspected of having malware and did I really want to proceed to it. I’ve been a longtime reader of your tech blog and can’t imagine why this message would appear. Thought you should know.

  4. Terry – A year ago or so you blogged that Erik had done some work on your website. You posted Erik was giving 15% off on website design. I figured if YOU had Erik do work for you, I could try him too. It’s always nice to have references and I needed someone to work on my sites. So I contacted Erik.

I’m so happy with the job Erik did tying three different sites of mine together on the well designed front page I now have. He really read me well even though I didn’t know what I wanted.

I’ve only emailed back and forth with Erik, so never knew what he looked like. I was so surprised to see the photo you took of him on your blog. Thanks.

    And thanks to you Erik.

    Linda
