    1. Same reason there was features left off of the original iPhone when the 3.0 OS came out. It pushes people to upgrade.
However, it may also be an issue of processor power/speed in the 3GS <-that's just a guess.

  1. The 3GS, 3rd Gen iPod touch and iPad use the same processor (the iPad’s is 1.5x faster). Obviously multitasking in any capacity will need horsepower that the first and second generation devices just don’t have. Your phone will still work, however, but with fewer bells than the newer guy.

Apple iPhone OS devices now officially have joined the cell phone obsolescence 2-yr cycle. Given that their smartphone gets pretty large OS features in a two year span (and your contract lasts that long), that’s fine with me. Anyone with a 1st gen iPhone is likely eager to hear about the new 4th gen phone now.

  2. I think your video casts are great!

Could you offer them in a form other than Quick Time?

My 23 inch screen shows a 4X6 postage stamp image.

Windows Media Player shows everthing full screen why not Quick Time?

IPod screens are tiny why not let the 90 some percent of the world that prefers Windows see your presentations?

    Thanks John

    1. Thanks! However, to clarify they are not in QuickTime format they are in standard H.264 MP4 format. There are many players out there that can play this format full screen besides QuickTime Player and iTunes. They are delivered as 640×360 widescreen format and I’ve viewed them with good results on my 50″ HDTV.

  3. Hi Terry.

Two comments. First, Seach SMS/MMS messages is listed twice. That effects the “my list of enhancements is better than your list of enhancements.”

    Second, what’s “iPod out?”

I’m still downloading today’s Apple’s Special Event podcast.

    Thanks,

  4. Why did they not include the native calculator ,clock , weather apps on the Ipad?…loving my Ipad!

    1. I wonder the same thing! My guess is that they either ran out of time redesigning their apps or Apple felt that there were better alternatives out there. Hard to know, but I do miss the Clock app since it could run in the background and 3rd party apps can’t yet (until Fall on the iPad).

  5. Read your post earlier this morning and subsequently read a couple of news items about iAds, suggesting that Apple will be pushing ads to your iPhone (and presumably to your iPad too) every three minutes. And without offering to pay for your cell phone bills or any bandwidth over-usage their ads incur. I don’t have an iPhone yet (my wife and I plan to get a couple once they’re available on Verizon, rumored to be only a few months off) but that would cause me to look elsewhere. Can you comment on the veracity of those reports?

    1. Actually that perception is taken out of context. The iAds will only display in the FREE Apps that you run and only while you’re running them. So it’s not much different than an ad in a FREE App today other than the Ad itself will be more dynamic. Since AT&T’s data plans are unlimited there is no impact to your cellphone bill.

      1. Thanks for clarifying that, Mr. White.

By the way, I need to learn InDesign, as quickly and efficiently as possible, and took a look at one of your video tutorials. I was very impressed! You are a terrific teacher, so I went to your books and videos link to find more. It looks like your InDesign Personal Seminar book would be the most appropriate for me but it is for InDesign CS2, which will be three versions old by Monday. Your video podcasts are great, but I think I need a learning curriculum. Any recommendations!
