Twitter is gaining in popularity and experiencing explosive growth. It’s not uncomon to see people Twittering on their phones and laptops throughout the day. When you use Twitter on your computer, it’s usually through a web browser. However, there is a full featured stand alone app called TweetDeck, which is free to download.

TweetDeck Twitter Dashboard – Twitter in real-time!

TweetDeck not only takes advantage of all of the Twitter features, but it even displays a small notification window in the upper right corner of your screen when new Tweets arrive. It also has Facebook integration, which is nice! One app to update both your Twitter and Facebook status. TweetDeck also lets you share pictures with Twitpic. TweetDeck is actually an Adobe AIR app (yeah that makes me happy!) That means that it’s cross platform for both Mac and Windows users. If you’re a Twitter user you should really check out TweetDeck.

Download TweetDeck here. Also follow me on Twitter.

  1. I replaced TweetDeck with Nambu. Same functionality but it looks a whole lot better on the Mac.

  2. I tried Nambu and I love the vertical navigation. I hate scrolling sideways I Tweetdeck when I have some my groups. I like the way Nambu and Tweetie are doing it better. That being said I am still using Tweetdeck for my day to day Twitter stuff. I wish groups were not specific to an app but could be configured on the Twitter servers so any app that wanted to have group functionality could just draw them off a central database. But yes, Tweetdeck is great. One of my main groups is local people because I have a chance to get to know those people personally and develop one one one relationship in either friendship or business.

  3. I used to love TweetDeck but the horizontal scrolling bugged me. I’ve not replaced it with Tweetie. The thing I like about this is while its running it has an icon in the top taskbar which turns blue when new tweets come in. Worth checking out.

  4. Thanks for the other suggestions from other comments. I personally like TweetDeck for the ability to follow Tweets of a search, say architecture or design. So that any tweet coming in on those subjects will come up in my window for a live ticker like action throughout the day. Although quickly multiplying the number of people I follow. Is this something I should be handling with hashtags? I need another monitor just for TweetDeck. Using a Cinema 23 for work and my Powerbook for email and TweetDeck.

Thank you Terry, this is one of the first blogs I read daily…

One question, off-topic. I don’t know if it is the animated ads or Terry’s flickr banner, but my CPU temp goes up 10 to 15 degrees when this site loads. Video in another tab will even be jumpy. Granted I am still plugging away on my OCT 05 Powerbook.
Ok, I’ll say it, T-Bone is hot. thanks again.

  5. Tweet Deck is great, I used it for quite a while—that is until Tweetie came out, I much prefer the Tweetie interface design—they did a great job.
