Why is there no "Nearest Apple Store" app?

It seems like it would be a no brainer for Apple to develop a free app for the iPhone/iPod touch that would direct you to the nearest Apple Retail Store based upon your current location. Since I travel for a living, it’s always nice to know where the nearest Apple store is, just in case I want to pop in and grab an accessory or peripheral or worse, get technical support on my MacBook Pro. Now that there are 3rd party apps for the iPhone and they can be "location aware", it seems like it would be a piece of cake for Apple to do this. Sure, it could be argued that you can kinda do this already with the Maps app, but it’s not always as accurate as a dedicated app would be. For example, I did a search for "Apple Store Charleston south carolina" and got everything but the one store that is there. So Apple, how about it?

  1. I wonder what that App would show over here 😀 Which US city with an Apple Store is closest to Sweden…do I dare to think. But seriously, that’s a good idea but I’d want the Apple Certified Stores as well over here.

  2. Good idea…as always! That might help solve the store locator problem I have on Apple’s site. Sure you can see what stores are in the state you select, but without seeing them on a map you have to click through and get directions. For example, California has about 40 stores and unless I recognize the street or the mall, it isn’t that helpful.

I chose a slightly different path to find the Apple stores in the areas I will be traveling. Going to say Boston or San Jose on the map first and then searching for “Apple Store”. It isn’t perfect, the new Boylston Street flagship store “pin” doesn’t appear until I zoomed in closer. How would I know to zoom in, if I didn’t know the store was there.

Anxiously awaiting the updated iPhone Book by Scott Kelby and that other guy…haha
I know you did all the heavy lifting – Scott just did the cover, right?
