It’s that time of year already! I’ve just completed my annual “Terry White’s 2008 Holiday Gadget Gift Guide”. That’s right it’s my guide to help you with you holiday shopping for the gadget lover (freak) on your list. The way this thing started was last year towards the holiday season all my friends started asking me and emailing about what my picks were in various categories and of course the answers were the same. So I decided to compile a list and just email it to the folks that asked. This year I start the guide off with a (humorous) look at gifts WE DON’T WANT!
The guide is broken out by product category and lists my picks from the lowest dollar amount to the highest. So there are products in just about every price range. The guide is interactive with links to each of the products (just click on the price) on sites that I trust to make online purchases from and have dealt with in the past. Each of the products are either products that I use or products that come highly recommended by friends whose opinions I trust.

PS. As you might have guessed the entire guide was built in Adobe InDesign CS4 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional.

Great gadget guide! Wish you’d had space to include Professor Kobre’s Lightscoop… an ideal tool for recession-wracked photogs using 35mm SLRs with a pop-up flash… to quote a guy whose word we respect: “Your popup flash doesn’t have to suck…” Instead of investing in a $300 external flash, shooters with these cameras can put on the $30 Lightscoop (available at Adorama.com for that price — http://www.adorama.com/FALSUs.html?sid=1215725604479426) and get pictures that rival those of the pros… (a bit of disclosure here… I’m the Professor’s wife… but as you yourself said last year… the Lightscoop DOES work!)
The nuvi 680 is discontinued according to the Garmin site. New models are due out this fall (2008).
Thanks for the guide Terry. I’m just started looking at it now, but I must make two comments: in the not for her section you advise the guy to go for jewelry over the vacuum cleaner. Perhaps, but if she’s like me, and isn’t really into jewelry, a spa visit should be the first choice. In the not for him category you say to stay away from books which made me freak. Heresy! In my family the most coveted present is a gift card to Barnes & Noble. LOL! (I’m not kidding, either.)

Another pick for the Gadget lovers. The Flip. I LOVE mine. It’s dead simple, really small and always handy when I suddenly want to capture something on video.

I have the Ultra model which takes plain old double A batteries. That came in handy when I was at an event at a hotel and the batteries ran out. I just popped into the hotel gift store and bought a couple and was right back in business. 🙂
Terry, great Holiday Gadget Guide!!! I purchased the Cintiq 12WX and I can’t seem to get the pen to respond. I’ve connect Cintiq to both PowerBook G4 and MacPro G5. I thought that this was going to be a simple task. I’ve downloaded the driver and I don’t even see in window of my system perfs. It tells me it has never been installed. Can you help!!!!

Make sure you’re installing the proper driver for the Cintiq for your version of Windows. If that still fails, give Wacom a call. You just bought it, that’s what tech support is for.

I didn’t see your ‘belkin travel adapter’ in the gear guide but saw the Kensington there. I have the Belkin myself (based from your review) and I think it’s a great travel accessory. I also saw that you cited that as one of your accessories in your iphone book video with scott.

I still love and recommend the belkin adapter. However, I went with the Kensington one in my holiday guide this time because it offers a little bit more in cable management. Like I said in my original review of the Belkin, I didn’t like the way the prongs just stick out. They should retract into the unit. The Kensington one doesn’t seem to have that issue. Either one is great though.
