Hi Terry
Thank you for a great tour. I will wish I know as much as you do about PhotoShop. I will like to try to make a picture like this you show with the lady and blue overlay, patterns and so on. Is it possible to get it described or do you have a video, there you show it.
Unfortunately it wasn't possible for me to take notes while I follow your tutorials.
Best regards
Marianne

If anyone here is still reading this old thread -- i would love advice on using Dropbox with LR 3. i read the post and comments here and basically don't understand how to do it.

if i use "export" to save out a catalog (and its actual photos, i would hope - i understand that some people here prefer not to do that) to my Dropbox folder, then where do my original catalogs live? in Dropbox, you generally grab a folder (let's call it Puffball) and drop it into your Dropbox folder. it is sort of like an alias: when you go "into" your Dropbox folder to work on documents in Puffball, Dropbox changes it on your hard drive (though you have lost your original file heirarchy and your personal filing system in order to dump stuff into Dropbox). it also changes it in the cloud on Dropbox, and later when you fire up your laptop it makes the changes there, too.

i tried moving my Lightroom catalog folder to Dropbox as i would do a normal folder, and of course LR freaked out and lost all its links. one would think a sophisticated application like LR could handle a move like that *when all the photos are in the same master folder as the LR catalog itself.* every web program and any basic FTP and shell commands do that. i'm not sure why LR doesn't. but anyway, if i export it to Dropbox, will Dropbox sync to my original Puffball folder and files, or do i have to Export and then Delete the original Puffball? that seems kind of insane.

I don't use wifi any more than I have to. At home everything is wired no only for security but because it is much faster than wifi even if I am the only one using it. When I do have to use wifi I find it almost more trouble than it is worth. Do they really expect you to spend 5 minutes getting the wifi logon at my local McDonalds when I will be done with my meal in 10. I don't think so. At hotels I won't use wifi for security reasons. While it is unlikely someone is going to hack me a bunch of unknown people on a third parties net access is sure a great place to try. So when I am I use 3G this is why I have an iPhone and an iPad and will have a MacBook Air once they add 3G or better 4G to it.

Thanks to you guys as well!
Really great tips, and fun to meet you in person, and not only see you on video.
Also thrilled that we were more people attending in Gothenburg than in Stockholm...

The problem with wired in that awful Ethernet connector, designed when computer meant a desktop PC. Apple would do the world a giant favor if it created a MagSafe-like design for wired connections. It's also allow them to make slender, better looking laptops.

Some hotels don't have a problem with multiple devices, some do. In the case of using my Airport express with NAT the hotel sees/gives out one IP and the AirPort handles assigning multiple addresses to the other devices.

MiFi is great and I have a couple. The problem arises when you travel internationally as data roaming can be quite expensive unless you buy local SIMs.

Mike, you are correct that many hotel's wifi networks will disallow multiple devices/IP addresses. I think the only way that Terry (or anyone else) would get around this is to use wired ethernet and then the airport base station. Each other device in use would have to make sure that they are associating to that SSID and not the one in the hotel room.

If you travel enough, go mobile router (aka MiFi), available from all the major carriers.
