It will need to be reprogrammed on your account with the NEW TiVo’s HOST ID, etc. So whether or not you can do it over the phone with them will be up to them.

Hi Terry,

I purchased a 20 Hour Tivo HD 3 weeks ago at Best Buy. I’m still within 30 days. Comcast came out and installed the cable card. Yet I’m going to return it and get the TiVo HD XL because I record a lot and I’ve already lost shows. My question is: Should the same cable card I have in the current Tivo work in the new one when it arrives? I don’t feel like calling Comcast again. Thanks and your site is great!

Hi Mark,
I don’t have a 7.1 or 7.2 system to test with yet. I am transferring shows both on wired ethernet and wireless between various TiVos in the house and haven’t noticed any difference in speed between the two.

Re: Tivo HD xl review. Did you notice an improvement in Audio quality? Will the xl support a 7.1 or 7.2 surround sound speaker set up? Are you transferring shows between tivos using wired ethernet or a wireless network? Thanks so much!

Hi Terry:
Really like all of your electronics reviews. I have a dish network HD DVR, and a couple of other dish HD receivers..I subsribe to all of the movies channels because there are many now in HD..Long story short my monthly bill with Dish is very high..We also have a 13% satellite tax here in Florida.. My bill is approx $157 monthly, I justify it because we live in a rural area and do not get out to movies as often..so this is our entertainment..
I have thought about converting over to TiVo, I like the new Netflix option..So my question is if not too personal, what are your monthly fees with TiVo plus cable etc.

Glad it worked out so easily. Mine went great too with the Multi-stream card. It worked the first time with no problem.

Terry, have you found a way to get higher resolution transfers using tivo to go using Toast 9 ? I read the hint here previously for Toast 8.

Looks like I’ll have to checkout BestBuy for a TivoXL for Xmas.

Terry, I remember the trouble you had with your cable card decoders. So, I was a little afraid when the cable guy came out. He didn’t have the cable card on his install orders but said I could just go by the local office and pick one up. Forturnately, he was a senior Comcast tech and said that the new multi-stream cards where WAY more trustworthy than the dual card setup. I went down to their office, got the new card, plugged it in and it’s worked like a champ!

Did you see the announcement that directv and tivo are back together? I cant wait to upgrade my directv HD dvr (which really isnt bad at all) to a tivo!
