OK, Underwater photography, now you're talking my language!!

I couldn't agree more about the cost of the U/W housings, ports, strobes, etc., but like everything else you get what you pay for - the results with the higher end rigs are amazing. You can get great results with the rig you described, though, so it'll be interesting to see how you pan out with it.

With respect to your sync cord problem, sites such as www.scubaboard.com/forums/ have good user community support and you can usually find someone knowledgeable with your specific setup who can give you advice (I've learned a lot here). Also, the guys at reefphoto.com are very helpful.

You were correct when you commented on how much you could spend on this hobby. I have a D200 with several lenses housed in a Light and Motion housing with Inon Z-240 strobes, and probably have close to $10,000 in this rig, but I'm getting some amazing shots.

As I said, though, you don't have to spend this kind of money to have a lot of fun and get some terrific pictures.

Good luck.

PS - there is no comparison in any water anywhere to the kind of pictures you get in the ocean. Plan yourself a vacation to the Carribbean (there goes another $5000 but you'll have a great time and get some great pics!)
