David,

Very interesting. This same phenomenon exists for Apple products as well. A friend in Germany tells me that iPads there will sell for over $1,000 U.S. Thank you for your detailed input.

As it stands at the moment - Adobe for Photoshop in the UK, even after adding UK taxes is £100 or 150 dollars more.

As a percentage, the difference is even higher for the upgrades - it can be as much as 50% more

For the Master collection....
Master Collection USA = $2786
Master Collection USA + VAT = £2180
Master Collection UK official = £2786
£600 more! (almost 1000 dollars)

Anyone who joins NAPP and gets 15% discount as a member (99 dollars) would save 500 dollars after paying for their membership! (though of course, someone doing the same in the USA would also get 15% savings!)

And if you think that's bad - I've just read that in Germany it's way more.

Now some products have world pricing. When Fuji sold the S5 camera only the taxes from that country made any differences - and depending on the exchange rate the prices were within a few percent.

The internet makes the world a single market. We can see what's being charged anywhere.

Adobe - please, we don't mind paying for upgrades when it's fair. Charging 30% to 50% over the odds is not.

Now I have read that they say the cost of doing business in these countries is higher. Is this perhaps the work of the same accountants who are charging UK customers more to buy a download than having the product shipped?

Any chance of an mpeg movie? I can't watch Flash, it makes my old G5 iMac fans spin up to 3500 RPM and I cannot hear the commentary.

Terry,

Great video and thank you!

I see comments on Scott's blog regarding the high cost of upgrades in Australia and Europe. This may be due to import taxes, sales taxes and perhaps even VAT (value added taxes) and not an example of Adobe price gouging. It might be a good idea for you and Scott to post an explanation if this is indeed the case, which I suspect it is.

Though I was a beta tester, I forgot to suggest a user "hot" folder to hold your custom presets, actions, brushes, swatches, and so forth. That way, each time you upgrade, you would not have to manually load these items into their respective panels. I don't know if it is possible, but it would be cool!
