I want to hook up my Iphone to my dvd system in the car and stream the slingbox signal but I have not been able to. It seems that you can only play video from Itunes, is this true? You can now have Sirius music in your vehicle without the monthly cost.

Thanks Terry. Do you know what type of device, if any, can be used to record content in HD and then played over another HDTV that is not hooked up to any cable, FiOS or Satellite?

On a related note, anyone know anything about this business with the Slinbox not functioning with HDMI?

Someone mentioned that I should have to purchase the ‘HD Connect’ dongle to be able to keep my DTV box hooked up to the TV via HDMI, but I would then have to connect the Slingbox to the DTV box with component cables via the dongle…

The solo should be fine. You would get better quality with a Pro seeing that your HD.

Terry –

Right now the only models available are the Solo and the Pro – since my *main* use would be to stream a signal from a DirecTV HD DVR to a Mac laptop, would there be any advantage to buying the ‘Pro’ model? Would I get a better quality stream to the laptop than if I bought the Solo box?

The Slingbox has no storage. So no. It’s primarily a devices that streams your video sources over the internet. That’s it.

Can someone help me with a slingbox question. Can you record onto a slingbox and then remove the slingbox and hook it up to another TV that is not hooked up to any cable or satellite? In other words, I want to watch the slingbox content on a stand alone TV that is only plugged into a power source. Possible?

Not sure. Never tried it overseas. However, as long as your IP/Port number are not being blocked, it should work.

Trying to set up a sling box can get ugly. The tech support helps at first but then wants you to pay 29.99 per incident. This is for a one time use and trust me they tell you it is good for 2 weeks, but they tell you its a different thing when you call. Found out the hard way. DO NOT BUY! SAVE YOUR MONEY!

I’ve only tried Slingbox with TiVo and Comcast (Motorola) DVRs, but it should work with just about anything.
