So Terry, does this work when recording a seminar from the room speakers, or does it only work when you ‘eat the mic’?

  I assume you’re speaking about the Mic in the other post. Yes, it works great for ambient sound. you do not have to be right up on it. However, YMMV depending on the background noise and desired volume levels.
