thanks for the insight. This is exactly the kind of program I really need (helping out my octonegarian father) but would never have found out about if not for your blog. I intalled it yesterday, but have a question. How do I connect after restarting the computer? Is there an actual application installed on my computer which I can place in my dock or do I have to go to the same URL I mailed to people I want to share with?

Bob, yes you’re missing it. It is FREE for up to 3 people in a meeting room at a time. Beyond that it is a paid service.

Maybe I’m missing it, but it looks like it is not a free service. It costs $39/month if you don’t count the free trial.

I do this all the time with my mom and older brother. Works like a charm. What they like is that they don’t have to register for anything or install anything. They just check their email, click on the email link, and off they go.

Easy peezy.

I’m definitely going to install a copy of Acrobat Connect on my father-in-law’s PC after trying to blindly troubleshoot his computer woes over the phone. I’m a diehard Mac user and my knowledge of Windows is fairly limited, but still well beyond my father-in-law’s understanding. So when he’s trying to explain to me over the phone that “Ok, I just clicked on a button somewhere and a new window just popped up that says, ‘Installation is not permitted because you are missing file MSE.163.EF.UXM.1J,’” he may as well be speaking Klingon at that point. Acrobat Connect will definitely minimize the hair pulling and frustration! If only it had come around sooner, I might still have a full head of hair.

Double-check that the conference call number isn’t in one of the exchanges that charge ridiculous amounts per minute — that’s how free conference call services usually make their money, by partnering with — let’s call them “creative” — local exchange carriers. An hour’s conference call can rack up long distance charges of $30-50 or so.

Or use a phone with unlimited long distance, but then some of wireless carriers are blocking those same exchanges.
