Hi,
I have a navigon 2100. The "Next maneuver button" does Not show up when I start the navigation.
Instead the "Rerouting" symbol shows up and stays there.
How can I fix it.
I went into the "Setting" and switched between Rerouting automatically and manual but it doesn't change anything.
What should I do?
I wrote an email to navigon tech support, but I didn't get an answer.
My navigon doesn't "talk" anymore either.
Please help,
thank you,
Linda

A couple years ago, I researched and was impressed by the Navigon.

The store I went into had a display unit so I could test out. Loved the interface! Far superior to the Garmin Nuvi! Only drawback was the touch screen was near impossible to use. Similar to the iTouch (why I never purchased one! plus the missing keyboard), it simply wouldn't readily recognize my touch. I'd have to press Very Hard, Many Times for it to respond. The ONLY drawback it had. Later, I was told that the floor models get much abuse and sometimes the touch screens quit working -the employee said they've even had broken LCD's on their floor model GPS's. Ah well, it was too late.

I own a Garmin Nuvi, and have extensively used 2 other Garmin Nuvi's.
Satellite reception can be Very Slow, at times, especially on first use of the day. Sometimes it's quick, but I have to be prepared to wait 20min for a first fix. A friend leaves it on all the time to avoid this delay. Once the satellites have been located, it's fine until you turn the unit off.
Also, often the GPS supplies directions quickly enough, other times, the Nuvi is delayed enough that you can miss the turns.
Garmin isn't without it's problems as well.. I had to send mine back to the factory within 6months. It simply would Not turn on. Or it would not turn OFF (until battery had drained). Or it would freeze. All this would be random. And Of course I did the usual hard and soft-resets. I would do this over and over and over and over.. for days. Sometimes it worked perfect, but more often than not, it didn't work. Couple weeks later I got it back, and has worked fine, until last week. Not it will not charge. This is less than 6 months since I got it back from the factory.
My two friends have had no problems with their Nuvi's, though one uses it only seldom. So, my point is, that the delays in finding satellite, and the problems with units malfunctioning or breaking are standard, not just relegated to anything non-Garmin. Garmin has the market name, and people assume that they are faster and error free. If you don't have a Garmin, and have trouble or frustration, then it's assumed its because they picked the wrong brand name.

I am frustrated by the lack of control I have with the Garmin, especially because I know what the Navigon does, naturally. People who haven't tried the Navigon, have no idea what they are missing. They have no idea what the base-line should be for user input and navigation control!

Due to the user interface, and so many other usability and functional options of the Navigon, I still feel I'm missing out with this simplistic, akward behind-the-times user interface and lack of options (overpriced) Nuvi.

Probably I should outline the distinct usability advantages the Navigon possesses over the Garmin Nuvi..

It's a shame that word did not get out over this wonderfully designed product. They really put a lot of control into the hands of its users, in a natural feeling way. I'm a sucker for great interface, and natural-thinking systems.

Does this occur when driving? I have read that this occurs when the power cable to the car has a blown fuse. You have to unscrew the tip of the power supply and replace the fuse from an auto parts store.

Don't know if this is your problem but you might look.

I've had a refurbished unit for about a year and it stopped recharging. Wanted to replace the battery, guessing it was dying. Contacted Navigon and they only will replace the batery themselves if necessary after a $25 diagnostic fee and a quote for any additional needed repairs. Bought a new charge cord, hoping it would be usable, even without a battery. Will try it when I get a chance. In the meantime I bought a TOM TOM ONE 130 for $49 (with rebate from NEWEGG) and have been using that. Works great.

Thanks Terry for writing the review that made me purchase the unit. This is a very late comment though :)

I bought this unit in the black friday $99 deal in 2007. It has been almost two years now and the unit is working fine. I have got the fatal error a few times. I dont relate it to the battery being charged. I have found that a complete shutdown of the system and a restart works well. I guess most of the folks having problems are not doing a full shutdown. By full shutdown, I mean pressing the power button for a long time when the unit is ON, until the system goes OFF. I guess this would reset the system. I have not tried the reset idea suggested by Saroja.

I simply love the 3D real time view, traffic updates, POI name display, logo display, etc. Route recalculation is also fast if not faster/fastest. I guess updating to a high speed SD card should resolve the issue. I would have liked to have the USB cable shipped with the box to facilitate software updates. I have never had a problem with the text entry. Just that sometimes, the scroll is slow to respond. As far as navigation goes, the concern is when we select to display the complete directions, it displays from the beginning rather than from the point that we are already in the route.

Good to see that the Navigon units just perform what they are supposed to do. Nice of the makers that they dont include funky items like picture viewer, MP3/Video player, bread toaster, microwave oven, etc.

This is my first GPS. I have seen my friends' Tom Tom and Garmin, but didn't like the display on screen as much as I liked mine. All in all this unit rocks. If the makers could provide a software update that would take care of the fatal error issue and text entry this unit would kill Garmin. To me Garmin is just like a Nokia of GPS systems with a wide range of products.

I have the Navigon 2100. It has been great for about 2 years. Recently, I turned it on and see the screen with the earth and Navigon name then the screen goes dark and the unit doesn't work. I've done this a dozen times and the same thing happens. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you resolve it?Thanks.
