Terry,
if you happen to need a cab outside the US or at least in areas where the magic button doesn't show up I would like to hear you feedback on CabChap. We just released it today to the app store.
Once you start the app it lists nearby cab companies in the US, GB, Canada, Australia and Germany. It's a free download (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cabchap/id345046060?mt=8).

Yep, this is very common driver behavior. Most of them want to write down the confirmation number and the amount for their personal records. For our riders, we try to counsel them not to ask the driver questions about Taxi Magic or the RideCharge payment feature, because some of the newbies will then try to talk the rider into paying cash instead. Best to just say thanks for the ride and check your screen for the payment and confirmation. That always works well for me.

Yeah, I read that the number should popup automatically but as soon as we arrived he turned the meter off and reached for pen and paper. So I just read the number to him.

Terry, one more note, you mentioned reading off the confirmation number to the driver. While this is sufficient, the driver also gets a message on his MDT (mobile data terminal), the special taxi computer for recieving ride dispatches, that tells him how much you paid and the confirmation number. This is all recorded in his fleets back office system so they pay him for the ride when he comes in to pay his taxi lease fees. Some fleets have been on our system longer so some drivers have more experience with our system. The experienced drivers just look at their screen to see your payment, say thanks, and head on. Happy travels!

Well, I'm on Phoenix, I will be needing a taxi to take me to the airport to pick up a rental car on Monday, so I'm going to see what happens.
