Hi Jay,

You said:
"For editing, 1) I take the footage into Premier and remove the annoying stair step pattern with this method. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=168166"
I don't see any method there. Just some script developement announcement.

Hey Terry,

Thank you very much for the info! It was very useful as I had problems with the video from my D5000 playing back in Premeire CS4 and Handbrake/Quicktime Pro seems to be a good solution. What project setting in Premiere Pro do you use? I used the 24p progressive and it does not want to register...I will check out the actually settings and try the conversion stuff later tonight.

Hi,
After I read numerous comments and photo sample of D5000, I bought one a week ago in the hope of higher ISO, say 1600, in order to freeze kid's action in door (night). Well, seems I was wrong coz the picture quality is quite poor (red/green patches) and looks dark ( i at least set EV +1.0 or +1.3) not like all the reviews I saw. I even shoot RAW and use in camera post processing to push EV. Any advise for me. I have been using D200 for 2 years and before I purchase the D5000, looks to me it has a much better ISO performance than my D200.
Thks in advance for any tips or advise.
Cheers,

(Pls excuse for my English)

Hi Terry,

I have both a D300 and a D200. I am planning to sell the D200 to be able to by the D5000. Do you think the image quality (noise, etc.) of the D5000 is better than that of the D200? I would also like to have the video capabillity.

What was your ISO set at? The higher the ISO the more grain you're likely to see. Also were you shooting JPEG or RAW? JPEG will also have more grain than RAW.

I don't understand why anyone would choose this camera over a D90 as a backup camera.

The D5000 won't autofocus with Nikon "D" lenses (such as the Nikon 85mm you mention in your review).
The D90 has a larger, higher definition screen than the D5000.
The D5000 uses different batteries than the higher end cameras (such as the D700) - the D90 uses the same batteries.
I believe the D90 has a few other pluses over the D5000.
I almost like the flip screen on the D5000, except that it flips down and can't be used for "selfie" kinds of shots.

Those differences in my opinion easily justify the less than $300 street price difference between the D90 and the D5000 (it is interesting that Nikon raised the D90 price when they brought out the D5000).

I could imagine someone on a very limited budget choosing the D5000, but if I were in that boat, I'd go for a refurbished D90.

Just my two cents - I have a D700, and D300 and an D90. I continue to use the D300 most of the time - it is better for bird photography (IMHO) than the other two.

Hi Terry, I labeled my post as "Coincidence" and I mentioned that it probably was a coincidence, but still an interesting one. Now, if Joe McNally also sells his D300 I will change my mind :)
