I have an old PowerBook G3 333mhz that has a dead power supply unit. I would like to get the data off the drive and was wondering if this adapter works with the older drives. According to www.everymac.com, it has a IEDE/ATA HD interface.

I just had the same thing delivered to me today also. I had a previous one, but this one works better. Good to have when helping friends and family with old drives or when they upgrade drives since it works with all types

This is also a very good tool to use when scanning for viruses, malware, and/or Trojan Horses. With the internal drive connected externally, the drive doesn't boot into the OS and give the malicious software a chance to hide itself from security related software scans. The drive just looks like another USB connected disk.

Terry,

I use a similar device called Black X by thermaltake. The bare drive is placed upright into the Black X. One model supports USB 2.0 and ESata connections at 3 GBPS.

In my case, it works like any other USB connected external drive.

Rafal,
the trick here is that this one connection works on all drives. If you buy a case, it will either be for SATA or PATA, not to mention the whole 3.5" vs. 2.5" drive size issue. I don't know of any cases that do it all?

It is a nice piece, although I have been trying to find something like this. But then I saw the prices. It is just simply alot cheaper to buy a generic HDD case that just slides both HDDs in.

Terry,
I have one of these Universal Drive Adapters, it's a great piece of hardware. You should also look at NewerTech Voyager Q- Quad Interface SATA 2.5" & 3.5" Hard Drive Docking Solution, also available from OWC. Anyone looking to archive their data on a regular basis would find this an easier solution and since it has USB2.0, FireWire 400/800 and eSATA interfaces, all bases would be covered. One caveat, it only works with SATA I/II drives, not with IDE drives, unlike the Universal Drive Adapter which handles both.

RL

BTW, when are you doing another InDesign seminar in NYC?
