15 New Creative Cloud Apps Are Here

Today’s the day! The long awaited Creative Cloud apps are now available for you to download, install and use. There are new versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Muse, Dreamweaver, Bridge, Premiere Pro, After Effects, InCopy, Flash Pro, Audition, Prelude, Speedgrade, Edge Animate and Edge Inspect, as well as Adobe Scout CC, Edge Code CC Preview and Edge Reflow CC Preview. As a Creative Cloud Member you can download any or all of these applications.

To get started head over to creative.adobe.com, login with your Adobe ID and choose which app you want to download first. You’ll then be prompted to download the new Creative Cloud Desktop (this replaces the old Adobe Application Manager – R.I.P.). Once signed in you can choose which apps you want as well as log in to your Behance account to get activity updates as well.

 

What else is new?

Beside the CC Apps themselves, there’s a brand new Learning Center where you can view several new getting started videos. There will be content added here on a regular basis. Of course Lightroom 5 is available to Creative Cloud members as well as Adobe InCopy CC. InCopy was never part of the suites and was always a separate purchase just like Lightroom. It’s great to have both of these applications be a part of the Creative Cloud.

What didn’t make it?

While all the CC Apps shipped as planned, two of the services unfortunately aren’t ready yet. The Desktop Sync feature of the New Creative Cloud Desktop app is currently disabled until the back-end performance is where we (and you) want it to be. Also since the Typekit Desktop Fonts rely on the desktop sync features to work, it’s also turned off at this time. As soon as these features are ready they will be enabled in your Creative Cloud Desktop app.

You can still use your 20GB of storage space via your web browser and the mobile apps that sync with it like Photoshop Touch and Adobe Ideas.

There are several different levels of membership for Adobe Creative Cloud. Everything from individual full memberships to single app memberships to student/teacher memberships and of course team, enterprise and government. There are also special deals for existing Creative Suite users from as far back as CS3.

  1. Absolutely nothing migrated from PSCS6 (which was on a CC subscription) to PSCC; none of my Adobe Extensions, none of my plug-ins, none of my actions. It’s a disaster.

      1. Unfortunately the FAQs don’t help much. What is the (systematic) upgrade path for those of us how have the 15 CC CS6 apps installed? Are we yet again forced to uninstall the old manually (hoping we get everything uninstalled properly and completely), install the new ones, go through the hell of trying to find all our plugin installers and license information, reinstall that, copy over or reimport our actions, brushes, Illustrator templates, InDesign templates, Premiere Pro sequence presets, carefully-crafted workspaces in aforementioned applications, preferences, and settings?

        I could install the new stuff first, and *some* of the apps will detect and import settings and presets from the old version, but I still need to reinstall my plugins. And when I uninstall the old version, all the file associations (and God knows what else) get clobbered (I know this both from personal experience and researching the issue on the forums), so the new versions have to be reinstalled on top of themselves. This was do-able with less than CS6, because we have the installation executables. But how to do this when Adobe Application Manager is running things? Where are the installation executables? Do I now have to also uninstall the new versions, so I can reinstall them via App Manager? What does that do to my installed plugins, settings, presets, etc.?

        This uninstall/reinstall paradigm may have been avant garde 25 years ago, or even 20 years ago, but it has been tired and unworkable for at least the last 2 decades. It’s not that difficult to design and document an automated install and upgrade path, even to the point of allowing old versions to coexist with new version, and automatically removing the old versions at some point in the future. I know this, because I’ve done it before, several times.

        There are some really simple things the developers could do to ensure that plugins are either moved, or checked for compatibility prior to loading in the new version (assuming an intelligent central plugin location), etc. It’s just not that hard. I’d be happy to consult with Adobe on the matter, for my standard hourly rate, but if Adobe has developers intelligent enough to write Photoshop, Premiere, e al, then they surely have in-house expertise already. Can’t we convince them to use that expertise to create an intelligent and seamless upgrade path? Good Lord, even MICROSOFT has that figured out with Office applications!

        1. To be clear, I love the products Adobe creates, and what they do to enable the creative community. It’s just these couple of things that are SSSSOOOOOO frustrating! And it never changes. So I’m gonna poke at it, gripe about it, and request a change whenever I can. Upgrading should be like opening a gift at Christmas (or Hannukah or whatever), not like going through a surgical procedure without anesthesia….

  2. Hi Terry – do you know if any progress has been made on the comment earlier by Adobe about something being thought about for photographers who only use Lightroom and PS? I use LR5 and PS5. I know I can do the $20 for PSCC but was hoping for something with LR included?? Thanks.

  3. If you’re looking for future video topics, you might create a series on using certain specific features of X app, which a user knows little about, for the hard-core users of Y app. Being able to get some benefit out of more of those 15 provided apps should make people happier with the wonders of CC. My suggests are:

    1. Illustrator for those creating documents of all sorts. I know so little about it, I don’t even know how it could be helpful. Can I use it, for instance, to turn a crude sketch into something that looks professional? Any software that’d turn me into a semblance of an artist would be marvelous.

    2. InCopy for InDesign users. Once i move a book into InDesign, I become nailed to my desktop because my little MacBook screen isn’t up all ID’s palettes and toolbars. That’s dreadful, because a lot of the editing I do is on content. I’d never buy InCopy to do this, but having it, I’d love to be able to use Adobe cloud and IC to edit that content on the go.

    3. Whether it’s books or apps, many of create stuff that we’d like to be able to promote and sell online. It’d be great to know how to use those audio and video apps to create an appealing book/app demo from JPEGs–voice over, zooming, Burns effect, that sort of thing.

  4. Hi Terry, I WISH i could download the new apps. Maybe you can hook me up with someone in the United States at Adobe who CAN HELP ME. I’ve been paying for Creative Cloud for a year now. SInce last Nov. I have NOT been able to install any of the updates or other CC apps. I have been on Adobe support via chat & telephone with five separate Adobe support people for a total of 20+ hours. Just yesterday with 2 people (b/c after 4 hrs I lost connection with the first guy, then had to call back, be on hold for 1 hour, re-explain the issue AGAIN to the 2nd person, somewhere out of the US) for a total of 8 hours. They have remotely taken over my computer, performed the exact same procedures as the person before them and NO one can resolve my problem. The last guy Jayslee, promised my issue would be ‘elevated’ to the “NEXT” level and I would receive an email immediately with a case number. 24 hours and I haven’t seen it yet. NO ONE at the first level of Adobe “off-shore” support seems to be able to help since November 2012. FRUSTRATING and extremely TIME consuming & costly = paying for a service I can’t access and costly in that I have to sit in front of my computer to enter my password as they are working remotely. I’ve also searched the online forums and see that many others are experiencing the same issues. I’m not code saavy enough to understand how to access & read the logs, etc. as suggested in the Adobe forum. I JUST WANT the programs to download and WORK. I’m limping along here with CS6 & ACR Version 2012and having to do work arounds just to open raw files within PS. I have been an Adobe user since 1994 & teach at a college that uses Adobe products. The Adobe products rock but the support sucks. And has everytime I have had to use them. PLEASE SEND HELP.

I’m like a kid in a candy store with all the NEW CC apps that are now successfully installed on my computer that I haven’t been able to install since Nov 2012! Going to be a huge time saver!
